Sound Performance
The JBL Boombox 3 is a 3-way speaker system that produces significantly more output power, volume, and deep bass than the JBL Boombox 2. In addition to the two midrange drivers and two tweeters that it previously had, it now has a built-in subwoofer that is specifically designed for the speaker and delivers powerful bass performance. EDM, rock, and hip-hop music soundtracks were among the ones we listened to, and they all had a sharp, punchy sound. The Boombox 3’s total bass output has also improved noticeably, and the lows can reach very low levels with plenty of depth and substance.
The JBL Boombox 3 is, therefore, the perfect speaker for outdoor events and gatherings where music can be played loudly, and people can dance to the beat of the music. In terms of highs and treble ranges, we noticed that the JBL Boombox 3 offers a little bit more clarity than the JBL Boombox 2; the highs sound smoother and less recessed, and the midranges do not distort at greater volume settings.
Suppose we were to side-by-side compare the JBL Boombox 3 and JBL Boombox 2. In that case, one thing is for certain: the JBL Boombox 3 unquestionably offers considerably louder, extended bass performance with very deep lows. On the JBL Boombox 3, you probably like listening to pop and dance music, and the bass is strong and forceful.

The JBL Boombox 3 can provide 180Ws of output power when connected to an AC source, which is a little more power than the JBL Boombox 2 in terms of specifications. Design
The JBL Boombox 3 has a noticeably improved design over the JBL Boombox 2, and it has a great metallic finish that makes it look sleeker and more contemporary. Additionally, this outdoor speaker has a strong metal handle with silicone grips that make carrying it much simpler. The JBL Boombox 3 has beautiful curved angles and a grippy base to keep the speaker in place, and when we side-by-side compared it to the Boombox 2, we thought it looked much more slick. Both speakers are equipped with passive bass radiators which generate powerful bass and can be seen moving while music is being played.
The Verdict?
The JBL Boombox 3 is an outstanding upgrade over the JBL Boombox 2 and provides considerably more powerful bass thanks to its built-in subwoofer, in addition to both tweeters and two midrange drivers that both speakers already have. Each woofer and tweeter in the new 3-way design is made for a particular frequency band, giving the JBL Boombox 3 significantly superior clarity in the highs, midranges, and bass without sound spilling into another frequency range.

When connected to AC power, the JBL Boombox 3 has an almost louder power output than the JBL Boombox 2 and is 180W instead of 160W for the Boombox 2. Despite this, the JBL Boombox 3 and Boombox 2 have the same size, appearance, and battery life. Both speakers are IPX7 waterproof and light enough to carry along, and the battery may serve as a mobile power bank for Bluetooth gadgets and smartphones.
If you want significantly louder music and more profound bass production, the JBL Boombox 3 is definitely worth the upgrade. It also produces much cleaner sound than the JBL Boombox 2, which includes a dedicated woofer. Both speakers are water-resistant and appropriate for outdoor use, and they share many similarities in aesthetics and design. It might not be worthwhile to upgrade if you already own a JBL Boombox 2 because the change in sound production is negligibly small. Due to the improved bass output and generally clearer sound performance of the JBL Boombox 3, we strongly recommend buying it if you do not already own one.
