Sound Performance
The sound quality of the JBL Boombox 3 and Xtreme 3 were both outstanding. Because both speakers feature dedicated woofers, they can deliver a powerful bass response, although the JBL Boombox 3’s bass sounded much deeper and more balanced than the Xtreme 3’s. It sounds like the kind of bass you would expect from a high-end Bluetooth speaker that punches deep bass notes that make EDM music feel solid and lively. The bass on the Boombox 3 has lots of depth and weight. We really enjoyed the Boombox 3’s midrange performance, which sounded clearly defined and highly detailed. You could practically hear every nuance in the song, from the highs to the lows.
The Xtreme 3, on the other hand, lacks some middle performance due to the absence of any midrange drivers, but it performs well in the bass department. They do, however, provide outstanding highs and vocals that significantly improve bass control. On the Xtreme 3, we played some EDM, rock, and country folk songs, and they all sounded really clear and punchy; the bass keeps where it belongs as bass and does not muddy into the midrange frequencies. Despite having less bass than the JBL Boombox 3, the Xtreme 3, however, delivers excellent sound through its two tweeters, and the treble frequencies have a great deal of sparkle. The soundstage and music clarity that the Xtreme 3 delivers is excellent for playing jazz and classical music on this speaker.

The JBL Boombox 3 andJBL Xtreme 3 are made to withstand harsh outside factors like rain or water thanks to their IP67 waterproof and dustproof design. The Verdict?
We thought that the JBL Boombox 3 and JBL Xtreme 3 were both outstanding Bluetooth speakers that produced a ton of power and bass. As expected, given its larger size and dedicated woofer, the JBL Boombox 3 has louder sound output and deeper bass. The JBL Xtreme 3, on the other hand, is capable of matching the JBL Boombox 3 in terms of bass at lower volume levels and delivers very loud music with a fantastic 100W of power. It also includes two separate woofers for deeper bass performance.
Both JBL Xtreme 3 and JBL Boombox 3 are great speakers, but overall, we thought the Boombox 3 offers more for its price. The Boombox 3 delivers significantly better bass and clarity in the midrange at louder volume levels. The JBL Xtreme 3 is only capable to power mid-sized parties due to its tiny size, but the JBL Boombox 3 is a far more adaptable alternative that can be used to power everything from small get-togethers to large outdoor celebrations. We also loved that the JBL Boombox 3 could be charged while playing music, and the additional 180W maximum power when using AC mode is ideal for playing music loudly outside. However, given its comparably smaller size and lighter weight, the JBL Xtreme 3 is a far more portable choice if you need a strong, portable speaker. It all depends on your personal interests and how much flexibility you require in a Bluetooth speaker, but you cannot go wrong with any choice.
